HOT STONE MASSAGE

Hot Stone Massage Therapy

Stone Massage Therapy or Hot stones has been used in many different cultures
for many years. Healers used rocks from the river beds and warmed them either
in hot coals or hot water. Placing the hot stones on cloth and arranging them
along the energy centres of the body would help to relax the muscles and reduce
pain or discomfort and therefore boosting the body's healing process.
Stone Massage involves the application of water-heated basalt stones of varying
sizes to key points on the body, giving a deep massage and creating sensations
of comfort and warmth. The direct heat can penetrate up to 1 1/2 inches into the
muscle therefore relaxing the muscle and allowing manipulation at a greater
intensity than with a regular massage resulting in a more effective massage.
In certain cases cold stones can be used to help muscular injury and
inflammation. Warm stones expand the blood vessels helping blood to move
round the body easier. The application of cold stones causes the
blood vessels to contract and also increases the lymphatic system.  Adjusting
temperatures in bodywork aids healing and is very beneficial.

Hot stone brings about balance & healing of the body.
The therapeutic potential of  hot stone therapy goes beyond ordinary massage.
The physiological benefits of alternating heat & cold to alleviate strains to limbs
have been medically proven.

AFTER CARE ADVICE

Try not to shower or bath for the next 24hours, if possible.  This will allow the penetration of the essential
oils.

You should not sunbathe or use a sunbed for the following 24hours after an aromatherapy massage,
some essential oils are photo toxic, and may cause the skin to burn.

You should try to rest & relax after a treatment, to allow the body to heal sufficiently & let the essential oils
be fully absorbed by the body.

Please try to drink lots of water, (mineral or filtered tap water) or herbal teas, to help speed up the
removal of toxins in the body.

Coffee, tea & cola should be avoided as they contain caffeine.  Caffeine is a stimulant to the body, & will
not help you to relax.

Please do try not to smoke or drink alcohol for the next 24 hours, as the treatment you have received is a
detoxifying one, & smoking & drinking will reintroduce toxins to the body.

Heavy meals should be avoided after treatment, as blood will be diverted to the stomach to help with the
digestion of food, & this will divert energy away from the healing process.  Light meals such as fruit &
vegetables are ideal.

Very occasionally it has been reported that any of the following reactions may occur in the following 24 to
48 hours after treatment:
Headache
Dizziness or nausea
Disrupted sleep pattern
Excessive urination
Irritation
Fatigue
Hyperactivity
Changes of appetite
Skin changes
These reactions are mainly due to toxins being released from the body, as the body is rebalancing &
cleansing itself.
